MTC191, MTC192, MTC193, and MTC291 are 3-credit courses at $75 (more or less) per credit for Arizona residents, plus a $100 lab fee that allows you to come in throughout the week to work on your music. The classroom has 15 stations, each with 27" iMac computers, M-Audio controllers, Native Instruments Komplete, Pro Tools, Abelton Live, Reason, Logic Audio, and Digital Performer. We also offer alternative controllers such as a Theremin, a sonome, Ableton Push and Launchpad controllers, and a Drum Kat. I bring in my Vertical Keyboards from time to time.

Electronic Music I (MTC 191)
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This class is an introduction to producing music with MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) and digital audio. Individual workstations consist of 27" iMac computers, M-Audio controllers, Pro Tools, Native Instruments Komplete, Abelton Live, Reason, and Digital Performer. After the first few weeks, students can use approved software on their own laptops if desired. Synthesizers, drum triggers and other MIDI controllers are also available. Students work on electronic music compositions throughout the semester. By the end of the semester, you will have a wonderful piece! Lectures are given most classes on topics such as Subtractive Synthesis, Sound & Waveforms, History of MIDI, MIDI Protocol, History of Electronic Music, Basic MIDI Setups, Digital Audio, as well as plenty of hands-on time that includes help with creative and technical matters. Students can also utilize lab time outside of class hours.

Electronic Music 2 (MTC 192)
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Continued study of the production of music with MIDI and digital audio. Emphasis on more complex configurations and their applications in song arrangements and other advanced concepts. This class is molded for the specific needs of each student, taking into account the wide range of skills and experience. Students pick an area of focus such as composition, sound design, production, live performance, algorithmic music, circuit bending, or a combination thereof. Creative and technical help is offered during class. Individual workstations consist of 27" iMac computers, M-Audio controllers, Pro Tools, Native Instruments Komplete, Abelton Live, Reason, and Digital Performer. Advanced students can use approved software on their own laptops if desired. Other free software may be shown such as CSound, PD, etc. Synthesizers, drum triggers and other MIDI controllers are also available. Students can also utilize lab time outside of class hours. Prerequisites: MTC191.

Computer-Based Sound Synthesis (MTC 193)
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Continued individualized study with emphasis on computer-based sound synthesis with software synthesizers, processors, and digital audio. This class is self paced and molded for the specific needs of the student, taking into account the wide range of skills and experience. Students pick an area of focus to showcase their sound design abilities, such as composition, live performance, production, or simply designing banks of sounds. Creative and technical help is offered during class. Individual workstations consist of 27" iMac computers, M-Audio controllers, Pro Tools, Native Instruments Komplete, Abelton Live, Reason, and Digital Performer. Other advanced programs such as CSound and PD may be shown. Students can use approved software on their own laptops if desired. Synthesizers, drum triggers and other MIDI controllers are also available. Students can also utilize lab time outside of class hours. Prerequisites: MTC191 and MTC192.
